Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how Afrinews (“we”, “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects information in connection with afrinews.app (the “Site”) and related services (together, the “Services”). By using the Services, you acknowledge that you have read this Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.
Scope and roles
We operate a news aggregation platform. We may act as data controller for certain personal data we collect directly. Third-party publishers, analytics providers, and infrastructure vendors process data under their own policies when you interact with their services (for example by following an outbound link). Please review their policies.
Information we may collect
Depending on how you use the Site, we and our vendors may process:
- Technical data and logs: IP address, approximate location derived from IP, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring/exit pages, timestamps, request URLs, and similar server logs.
- Cookies and similar technologies: cookies, local storage, session identifiers, pixels, or scripts used for essential Site operation, preferences, security, and (where applicable) analytics or performance measurement.
- Usage data: pages viewed, interactions, scroll or click patterns, feature usage, and aggregated statistics.
- Search and filter inputs: if you use search or filters on the Site, queries may be processed to show results and logged for abuse prevention and product improvement.
- Communications: if you contact us (for example legal or support email), we process the content of your message and contact details you provide.
We do not require a user account to browse the public feed in the current offering. If we add accounts or subscriptions later, we will update this Policy and collect only what those features require.
Purposes of processing
We use information to:
- Provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Services;
- Display aggregated news and links to sources;
- Maintain security, prevent fraud and abuse, and enforce our Terms;
- Analyze usage in aggregated or pseudonymized form;
- Comply with law, respond to lawful requests, and protect our rights;
- Respond when you contact us.
Legal bases (where applicable)
For users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we rely on applicable legal bases such as: (a) performance of a contract; (b) legitimate interests (for example security, analytics, product improvement), balanced against your rights; (c) legal obligation; or (d) consent where required (for example certain non-essential cookies).
Cookies and tracking
We and partners may use cookies and similar technologies. Strictly necessary cookies support essential functions (for example load balancing, security). Functional cookies may remember preferences (for example theme). Analytics cookies or tools may help us understand traffic and performance. You can manage cookies in your browser settings; blocking some cookies may affect functionality.
Third-party services
The Services rely on third parties. Without limitation, this may include:
- Hosting and edge infrastructure (for example Vercel or equivalent) for deployment, TLS, routing, logs, and regional delivery;
- RSS sources and feeds from publishers and aggregators;
- X (Twitter) data via official APIs, intermediaries, or RSS bridges when configured;
- Analytics or monitoring tools if enabled.
Each provider may process data under its own terms. We are not responsible for their independent practices.
How we may share information
We may disclose information:
- To subprocessors that assist us under our instructions (hosting, email, security);
- To comply with law, regulation, subpoena, or governmental request;
- To enforce our Terms or protect rights, safety, and property;
- In connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale (with notice where appropriate);
- With your consent where required by law.
We do not sell your personal information for monetary compensation as a business model.

We are based in the United States. If you access the Site from outside the United States, you consent to processing and transfer of information to the United States and other countries whose data laws may differ from yours.
GDPR (EEA / UK)
Where applicable, you may have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction or objection to processing, portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. To exercise your rights, contact us at privacy@afrinews.app. We may verify requests and respond within applicable timeframes.
CCPA / CPRA (California)
California residents may have rights to know, delete, correct, and opt out of certain forms of “sale” or “sharing” as defined by law. We do not knowingly sell personal information of minors under 16. For requests, email privacy@afrinews.app. You may designate an authorized agent as permitted by law.
Data retention
We retain information as long as necessary for the purposes described above, unless a longer retention period is required by law (for example security logs). Aggregated or pseudonymized data may be retained indefinitely.
Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information. No Internet transmission is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children’s privacy
The Services are not directed to children under 13 (or the age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have, write to privacy@afrinews.app and we will take steps to delete it.
Your choices
You can adjust browser cookies, use privacy-oriented browsers, limit ad tracking in device settings, and avoid sending us personal data except when needed. For privacy-related requests: privacy@afrinews.app.
